Export wrapping

Export wrapping and protection for storage and long moves

Export wrapping is the heaviest grade of furniture wrapping we do: each piece is padded at the corners and edges, wrapped in specialised materials and sealed, so it comes through a long journey, several handlings or months in storage without marks, damp or dust. Our customers usually ask for it on the items they are most concerned about or that are worth the most, and before their things go into storage. Duffield Removals does it from Chester and Mid Wales, for moves and for our own storage at Rhayader and Chester.

“It took 3 vans and the staff worked incredibly hard, packed our possessions carefully and were very expertise at packing, filling the Luton Vans to the roof, ensuring everything was secure so that not a single item was broken or damaged on unpacking.”

When you need it

  • Anything going into storage for more than a few weeks. The removal blankets come off when the load goes into the store and the pieces stand close together, so wrapping is what keeps them from marking each other
  • Long-distance moves, where the load is on the road for hours and handled more than twice
  • Pianos, antiques, marble and glass tops, artwork and mirrors, on any move
  • Anything you would be upset to see with a scratch on it

How it is done

Each piece is checked, the corners and edges padded, and the whole piece wrapped and sealed in stretch film, with tape across the tops so nothing rubs through. Side tables, cubes and cabinets are wrapped one by one; tall pieces are wrapped from top to bottom. Upright pianos are stretch-wrapped and strapped upright in the van.

It takes longer per piece than the blankets and covers of a normal move and uses more material, which is why it is shown as its own line in the quote. Our guide what is export wrapping answers the questions people ask before they choose it.

Wrapping before storage

On the road everything travels under removal blankets and covers, but those come off when the load goes in, and a chair leg against a table top or a damp corner does the rest over a few months.

We offer full or part pre-storage wrapping: every piece, or only the pieces that matter to you, wrapped on the day of collection before it goes into our store at Rhayader or Chester. The wrapping stays on until you unwrap it at the new home, or our crew unwraps it when we deliver.

How it is priced

Export wrapping is priced in your quote for the move or the storage, depending on how many pieces there are and what they are: a set of side tables takes less time and material than a piano. List the pieces, or send photos on WhatsApp, when you ask for the quote.

Questions we get asked

Export wrapping: the answers

What is export wrapping?

Padding, wrapping and sealing an item so it survives several handlings, a long journey or a long time in storage without marks, damp or dust. It is the sensible choice for a long move and for anything valuable going into storage.

Is export wrapping only for exporting?

No. The name comes from shipping, where goods are handled many times. We use the same grade of wrapping for storage and for long-distance moves within the UK.

How much does export wrapping cost?

It depends on the number of pieces and what they are, and it is priced in the quote. Tell us what the pieces are, or send photos, when you ask.

Do you wrap pianos?

Yes, and we move them too: upright pianos travel stretch-wrapped and strapped upright in the van. Tell us the make and where it sits in the house (stairs, steps, a tight hallway) when you ask for the quote.

Is wrapped furniture insured?

Yes. While we move it, it travels under our goods in transit insurance, up to £120,000.
