Our crew packing a kitchen.

Duffield Removals packs homes before a move, from Chester and Mid Wales: the whole house, the kitchen and breakables only, or whichever rooms you choose, usually the day before. We bring double-walled boxes, paper, bubble wrap and tape, lend wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes, and label every box by room. What we pack travels under our goods in transit insurance to £120,000, and the packing is priced in the same written quote as the move.

Full pack, part pack or materials only: which do I need?

  • Full pack: we pack every room the day before, and you keep back a bag for the night and a box for the kettle. It suits families, busy weeks and long-distance moves, where boxes spend longest on the van.
  • Part pack: we pack the rooms that break, the kitchen, glassware, pictures, mirrors and lamps, and you pack clothes, books and toys. It costs less than a full pack because it takes fewer hours.
  • Materials only: we deliver double-walled boxes, paper and tape ahead of the move, lend wardrobe boxes, and you pack at your own pace.

How we pack

Kitchens take longest and break most, so they get the most care: plates on edge with paper between, small appliances in their own boxes. Pictures and mirrors are wrapped. Wardrobe boxes take hanging clothes straight from the rail. Books go in small boxes so nobody has to lift a box of bricks.

Every box is labelled with the room it is going to. At the new house the crew puts each box in the room on the label.

Unpacking

If you want the house livable on the first night, ask for the kitchen and beds to be unpacked on delivery. Unpacking is agreed and priced in the quote, like the packing.

Packing for storage and long moves

Anything going into storage for months, or a long way by road, needs more than a box and tape. Our export wrapping page covers the materials and method we use for long journeys and long stays.

Questions we get asked

Packing services: the answers

How long does a full pack take?

It depends on the size of the house and how much glass and china there is. Send photos of the rooms before we quote, and the quote says how many packers and how long, so you know whether it is one day or two.

Do I need to be there?

Ideally for the start, so you can point out what stays, what is fragile and what you want to keep with you.

What should I pack myself?

Documents, jewellery, medication, chargers, valuables and anything you will need on the night. Keep them in a bag that travels in your car.

Is what you pack insured?

Yes. Boxes we pack travel under our goods in transit insurance, up to £120,000.

Do you supply boxes if I pack myself?

Yes: double-walled boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap and tape, delivered ahead of the move, and wardrobe boxes on loan for hanging clothes.

Can you pack the day of the move?

For small homes, yes, with an early start. For anything bigger, packing the day before keeps move day short and the crew fresh for the lifting.
